Objective: In this study, the effect of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) on the activities of hexokinase (HK), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD), malate dehydrogenase (MDH), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and enzymes from kidney of F2 maternal and offsprings was investigated.

Material and Methods: 2,4-D was administrated to female parents as a 1/100 dilution of 338 mg/kg body weight (LD30) in 3 day intervals. Ethanol was administrated in the control group. This experimental treatment was carried out for over 2 generations.

Results: In female parents of second cross, the activities of G6PD, 6PGD, MDH and LDH enzyme were found higher than those of control groups. Whereas, the activity of HK enzyme was found decreased. The offspring of second cross female parents showed lower activities of 6PGD, G6PD, MDH, HK, and LDH enzymes than ethanol controls.

Conclusion: We can conclude that 2,4-D which is an environmental toxic substance affects a number of kidney enzymes negatively in the mouse.
