Objective: It has been accepted that somatotype and body composition are important factors for selection of athletes in sports moreover an athlete will develop a suitable somatotype for a particular sport and this would increase his/her success. The aim of this study was to determine the body composition and somatotype profiles of young male soccer players and examine the relationship of somatotype and body composition to aerobic performance and injury percentages in a year.

Materials and Methods: The sample consists of 122 male soccer players belonging to a Turkish soccer team participating in super league. The age range was 10-18 years. Somatotypes were estimated with the Heath-Carter anthropometric somatotype method and body compositions have been assessed using Tanita TBF 300 M. Field speed test was used for performance measurement. The injuries of all players in the last year were recorded. SPSS 15,0 was used for statistical analysis.

Results: The somatotype of 122 young male soccer players was 2.23± 0.62, 4.14± 0.86, 3.24± 0.86. While the players in our study were ectomorphic mesomorph, they were more mesomorphic than the young Turkish soccer players in previous studies but less mesomorphic than their international counterparts. There wasn't any statistically significant relation between somatotype, body composition and running speed. There was no relation between somatotype and injury percentages which could be explained by high standard deviations and similar somatotype results in (ectomorphic mesomorph) all age groups.

Conclusion: The soccer players in our study was endomorphic mesomorph (2,23±0,62 - 4,14±0,86 - 3,24±0,86 )and have similar somatotype results both in general and in all age groups.
