Objective: We investigated the prevalence and sex distrubition of congenital colour blindness in our university students.

Materials and Methods: This study was performed between March 2010 and November 2011. Using Ishihara pseudoisochromatic plates, 712 male and 372 female students were tested for congenital red-green colour blindness.

Results: The mean age was 19,80±2,7 (18-24 ) years for male and 19,3±2,5 (18-23) years for female. Totally, twenty six patients (2,39 %) had colour blindness. All of these cases were male and the prevalence of red-green colour blindness was 3,65 % in male (18 cases deutans (69,23 %), 7 cases protans (26,92 %) and one case (3,85 %) total colour blindness).

Conclusion: Our findings were similar to the others reported in the literature. However, to determine the prevalence of congenital colour blindness in our country to be required comprehensive and multi-center trials.
