Objective: Multiple sclerosis, is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by demyelination and axonal damage. There have been many studies on multiple sclerosis disease. However, in spite of all these studies, the exact cause of Multiple sclerosis is unknown. In our study, we investigated the relationship between forkhead box O1a member of Homo sapiens forkhead box O gene family which has effect on growth and differentiation of myogenic that belongs to Forkhead Family and Multiple sclerosis disease.

Material and Method: The study group comprised 93 patients with the diagnosis of Multiple sclerosis who have applied to Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine, and Department of Neurology. 93 healthy individuals without any neurodegenerative disease are included as controls. RNA was obtained from peripheral blood samples of patient and control groups. We analyzed forkhead box O1 gene expression levels using RT-PCR. The data obtained were analyzed with Mann–Whitney U test.

Results: According to the results of analysis there is no difference between forkhead box O1 rates in patients with multiple sclerosis and healthy control group (p>0,05).

Conclusions: These findings suggest that it would be important to investigate the necessity of the continuation of the treatment and diagnosis of Multiple sclerosis further molecular studies and other genes in charge of the suppressing neurodegeneration.
