To Evaluation of Clinical Features and Risk Factors in Children with Allergic Asthma

Objective: In this study, we aimed to investigate of demographic characteristics, laboratory findings and risk factors of children diagnosed with asthma in Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Clinic, retrospectively.

Material and Method: Between January 2010 and January 2015, the clinical characteristics and laboratory findings of 786 children with allergic asthma between 5-18 years were evaluated.

Results: The children in the study, 58.5% were boys and 41.5% were girls and mean age was found to be 9 (5-18) years. The most common sensitization in children with asthma were determined as grass pollens in 44.5%, cereals pollens in 42.7%, Dermatophagoides farinae in 38.5%, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus in 37%, outdoor mold mixture in 20.6%, weed pollens in 18.1%. Furthermore, familial atopy 66.9%, kinship between parents in 28.8 %, owning a pet in 15.4%, visible mold at home in 15%, and a history of smoking in home in 45% was detected. Asthma accompanied by other allergic diseases, rhinitis was found in 55.8%, atopic dermatitis in 10.4%, urticaria in 2.9% (n=37), food allergy in 2.3%, and drug allergy in 1.1% were detected by patient\'s medical histories.

Conclusion: The determination of the risk factors and clinical features of childhood asthma is very important to reduce the frequency and the severity of the asthma attacks.
