Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the platelet parameters in pre-eclamptic and normal pregnant women.

Material and methods: Fifty pre-eclamptic women and 70 healthy pregnant women as the control group were enrolled to this study. The platelet count, and mean platelet volume (MPV) of the groups were compared.

Results: The mean age of the pre-eclamptic group was 28.3 ± 4.6 year and the control group was 27±3.5 year. There was no statistically signifi cant difference between the two groups in terms of the age and gestational weeks (p>0.05). The mean platelet count (x 103/μL) was 235.5±7.5 in the pre-eclamptic group and in the control group 233.6±38.8 and there was no statistically signifi cant difference between the groups (p>0.05). It was found that the MPV value of the pre-eclamptic group was higher than the control group (9.8±1.4 vs. 8.7±1.3, respectively) and there was a statistically signifi cant difference between the groups (p=0.012).

Coclusion: The mean value of MPV was higher in the pre-eclamptic group than the control group. However, the mean platelet count of the pre-eclamptic and normal pregnant women were similar.
