Aim: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the seroprevalences of hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV in patients who admitted to the cardiology clinic and underwent angiography.

Material and methods: Between January-December 2014, seropositivity of HBsAg, anti-HCV, and anti-HIV and demographic data of the patients who underwent angiography in cardiology clinic were evaluated retrospectively. Serologic tests were assayed with macro-ELISA method. Statistical analysis was carried out with Chi-square test.

Results: Among 3.367 patients, 2.093 (62.2%) were male and 1.274 (37.8%) were female. The mean age was 60.9±12.4. HBsAg was positive in 125 (3.71%) patients. Anti-HCV was positive in 53 (1.57%) patients. Anti-HIV was positive in only one (0.03%) male patient. No significant associations were found between HBsAg and anti-HCV seropositivity rates and gender.

Conclusion: Our study has similar seropositivity results with other researches which were carried out in our province and all around the country. Health care workers should regard each patient as potential hepatitis B, hepatitis C or HIV disease carrier. During interventional procedures such as angiography, health care workers should take the necessary safety precautions to protect against hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV transmission. In addition to that, in-service training should be taken into consideration in order to improve awareness about these diseases.
