Objective: The aim of this study is to compare the postoperative fascia closure with clinical and ultrasonographic examination in terms of trocar site hernia formation in patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery in a tertiary hospital.
Material and Method: Female patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery at Sivas University Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics and General Surgery Clinics between 2020 and 2022 were included in the single-center and crosssectional study. Patients were divided into two as Group 1 (only skin closure without fascia closure) and Group 2 (fascia closure in addition to skin closure) according to whether the fascia at the site of the 10 mm trocar which is placed laparoscopically from the umbilicus was closed or not. The patients were followed up between 6 months and 1 year after the surgery and were called for a check-up and evaluated for trocar site herniation by examination and ultrasound. Patients were compared in terms of age, BMI and smoking history. Results: A total of 76 female patients (Group 1/Group 2: 48/28) participated in the study. No trocar site herniation has developed, and no wound infection was detected in any patient. When the women evaluated in our study were compared in terms of age, BMI and smoking history, it was observed that there was no significant difference between the groups. Conclusion: The choice of port closure should be personalized according to the individual characteristics of the patient, the surgeon\'s preference, and available resources. Non-obese patients who have their first laparoscopic surgery with a 10 mm trocar entered through the umbilicus may not need fascial closure. |
