Objective: The cases that applied to Forensic Medicine Department as a result of an argument in traffic were evaluated in terms of forensic medicine and it was aimed to draw attention to this issue.
Material and Method: Cases that were injured as a result of traffic accidents between 01.01.2018-31.12.2022 and for whom judicial report was requested were evaluated. Cases were evaluated in terms of age, gender, day and time of the incident, way of incident occurred, their position as pedestrian or in the vehicle, injured body parts and severity of injury. Results: There were 24 cases between the ages of 18-40 and the average age was 35.92±11.96. It was determined that 55% of the cases were drivers, and the most common injury site was head and neck injuries (65%). The rate of cases that could be resolved with simple medical intervention was found to be significantly higher in blunt trauma victims (p =0.026), and need for consultation was significantly lower (p =0.006). Conclusion: The striking finding in our study is that the cases injured as a result of road rage behavior are mostly young adult male drivers. Some precautions need to be taken today to prevent injuries from reaching serious levels in the coming years. We think that the current legal regulations in Turkey should be reviewed and preventive measures should be increased, and deterrence should be increased by applying heavier penalties, especially for behaviors such as sudden lane changes in traffic environments, verbal abuse or shouting at other drivers. |
