Objectives: This research was conducted for the purpose of determining whether or not women's educational level had an effect on domestic violence they suffered from their husbands.

Material and Methods: From the research population of all of the women who came to Çanakkale province center primary health care clinics, 366 women were chosen using a random sampling method. The data for this cross-sectional study were collected between February 2006 and March 2007 in face-to-face interviews with the women using a survey prepared by the researchers. Data have been evaluated on computer by percentage and chi- square test.

Results: According to results most of women (80.9%) have domestic violence from their husband. It was determined that the women's educational level made a difference in the prevalence of physical violence (p=0.036) and economic severity (p=0.001) the women faced from their husbands, however there was no difference in the emotional (p=0.367) and sexual violence (p=4.971) according to educational level.

Conclusions: Throughout their marriage 80.9% of the women had suffered from some kind of violence from their husbands at least once. The type of violence suffered the most by the women was emotional. The women who were primary school graduates suffered the most violence and the women who could not read or write suffered the least.
