Objective: In our study; in addition to routine screening tests in blood donors for the diagnosis of infections with Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV); it is aimed to investigate HBV DNA, HCV RNA, HIV RNA, Anti-HbcIgM/Anti-Hbc total levels and to evaluate whether these tests are important in terms of transmission risk of transfusion-borne infections.
Material and Method: A total of two hundred healthy people between the ages of 18-65 who applied to our hospital\'s blood transfusion center as blood donors between July 2020 and April 2021 were included in the study. Hepatitis B virus DNA, Hepatitis C virus RNA and Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) RNA were investigated by Real-Time PCR method from serum samples. Anti-Hbc IgM and Anti-Hbc total antibodies were screened by macroelisaassay. Results: As a result of real time PCR, HBV DNA, HCV RNA and HIV RNA positivity were not found in any of the donors. Also, as a result of serological tests, Anti-Hbc total positivity was detected in 28 (14%) of the donors while Anti-Hbc IgM positivity was not detected in any donor. Conclusion: In this study, we did not detect HBV DNA, HCV RNA or HIV RNA positivity in any donor. The small number of donors included in the study may have caused this result. Studies with larger numbers of samples are needed. |
