Blunt or chemical ocular traumas due to airbag injuries previously reported. In this paper, a severe ocular trauma due to airbag injury during a traffic
accident is presented. 32 years old man was admitted to our clinic after a car accident. Initial examination revealed many signs of trauma in the right
eye, including total corneal epithelial defect, corneal edema, hyphema, and iris sphincter tears. Right ocular fundus could not be visualized because of
the hazy media. Initial B-scan ultrasound revealed an attached right retina. Corneal edema disappeared 10 days after the initial exam and the right
fundus visualized. There were diffuse macular edema and subretinal hemorrhage in the right fundus. The patient was only able to count fingers from
half a meter. It has been reported that motor vehicle accidents constitute a large portion of the ocular injuries. The incidence of airbag related ocular
injuries is known to be increasing. In case of history of a motor vehicle accident, the clinicians should be aware of the findings of the airbag related
ocular injuries.
