Evaluation of Healthy Life Style Behaviors of Health Workers

Objective: In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the public healthcare workers’ healthy life style behaviors with regards to their demographic variables.

Material and Method: All enquiries in this study are crosssectional, descriptive and deductive. They cover the workers of four public health institutions located in the center of province of Kirklareli in Turkey. Also, all data were collected through a questionnaire. The workers were selected according to their willingness to participate the survey. 306 out of 312 questionnaires that filled completely were evaluated in this study. SPSS for Windows 17.0 software package was used in the analysis of the data.

Results: It is determined that 69.3% of the workers in the study are female, 76.5% of them are married, 70.8% of them are university graduate and 35.3% of them never do exercise. When healthy behavior scores of workers have been examined; the highest average score is for spiritual development behavior (26.960±4.529), and the lowest average score is for physical activity behavior (16.075±4.630). However, it has been found that there is a statistical significant difference between healthy behavior scores of workers and their age, marital status, work status, title, institution, professional experience, institutional experience, work unit, income, exercise level and housemates.

Conclusion: It is determined that demographic variables effect healthy life style behaviors of public healthcare workers. Furthermore, it is obviously seen that healthy behaviors of workers’ overall scores are in medium-level (130.228±19.122).
