Objective: Neurodevelopmental disabilities are associated with factors that lead to malnutrition, such as decreased food intake, increased nutritional requirements, and food loss. In children who cannot be fed orally, mortality and morbidity due to malnutrition can be prevented by alternative enteral nutrition such as percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. In this study, sick patients’ hospital files who underwent percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy was retrospectively compiled.

Material and Method: Children who underwent percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy in our clinic between 2010 and 2020 were included in the study. The demographic data of the cases, underlying diseases, complications during and after the procedure were reviewed retrospectively.

Results: Of 143 patients who underwent percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy in our clinic over a ten-year period, 83 (58%) were male and 60 (42%) were female. The mean age of the cases was 4.8±4.6 years (3 months-18 years). When the primary diseases were evaluated, 80 (55.9%) had cerebral palsy, 19 (13.3%) spinal muscular atrophy, 6 (4.2%) subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, 23 (16%) metabolic disease and 11 (7.6%) had traumatic head injury. During and after the procedure, cellulitis was observed in 3(3.1%) cases, granuloma in 15 (10.4%), stromal infection in 10 (7.6%) and buried buffer syndrome in 2 (1.4%) cases.

Conclusion: It was observed that percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy procedurecan be applied without serious adverse effects in children with nutritional problems due to chronic disease.
